SERIAL KILLER QUARTERLY is now available in eBook format! #serialkillers #truecrime #kindle #itunes

SKQ_Vol1No1_Cover-1800x2700The debut issue of Serial Killer Quarterly, “21st Century Psychos”, explores seven of the new millennium’s most notorious multiple murder cases. In her feature story “Building a Mystery”, Dr. Katherine Ramsland examines the life and crimes of Israel Keyes – arguably the most organized and mobile serial murderer in American history. In direct contrast to Keyes’s secretive slayings, the Beltway Snipers, John Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, murdered random civilians in broad daylight and openly taunted the authorities. Michael Newton – author of 265 books including the groundbreaking Encyclopedia of Serial Killers – details their three week reign of terror in his feature “Islam Will Explode”. Lee Mellor‘s “Web of Spiders” discusses the milestone case of “Slavemaster” John Edward Robinson: the Internet’s first serial killer. Other articles in “21st Century Psychos” include:

“Love in the Ashes” – Arthur Ellis-award nominee Robert J. Hoshowsky takes on Sheila Labarre – an aging nymphomaniac who seduced, slaughtered, and incinerated three male victims on her New Hampshire farm, challenging our views on the nature of female serial killers forever.

“The Interview” – Curtis Yateman’s impressionistic look at the 2009-2010 murders committed by Canadian Airforce base commander Col. Russell Williams.

“Checkmate” – The story of post-Soviet Russia’s most prolific serial slaughterer, “Chessboard Killer” Alexander Pichushkin, as recounted by Grinning Man Press co-founder Aaron Elliott.

“Canada’s Killer Countryboy?” – Kim Cresswell sheds light on clean-cut “country boy” Cody Legebokoff, who at the age of 21 was charged with the murders of four women in western Canada. Is his guilt a certainty, or is there more to this story than meets the eye?

SKQ_Vol1No2_Cover-1800x2700Triple feature edition! Issue #2 of Serial Killer Quarterly, “Partners in Pain” recounts the gruesome tales of 15 serial murderers operating in 7 different teams from 19th century Scotland to 21st century Santa Monica.

Bestselling author Cathy Scott guides the reader through the fog choked alleyways of Edinburgh where Irishmen William Burke and William Hare fatally suffocated up to 25 people in 1828.

Our second feature by Dr. Katherine Ramsland focuses on Houston’s wicked “Candy Man” Dean Corll – one of the most sadistic murderers in 20th century criminal history.

Feature number three takes us back to the United Kingdom as Carol Anne Davis explores whether both John Duffy and David Mulcahy were truly the “Railway Killers”.

Kim Cresswell relays the perverse folie a deux of Doug Clark and Carol Bundy whose rampage began in 1980 on LA’s sunset strip.

Robert Hoshowsky and Curtis Yateman write of confinement and torture in their pieces on Leonard Lake and Charles Ng and “Ken and Barbie Killers” Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka.

Lastly, Aaron Elliott takes a look at a rare female-female serial killer duo, LA’s Helen Golay and Olga Rutterschmidt, who drugged and ran over two men with their car in order to collect on their life insurance policies.

Also includes, Anthony Servante’s analysis of poems by the Zodiac Killer, Joseph Kallinger, and Israel Keyes, and a review of the film ‘Natural Born Killers’.

Issue #2 – Triple feature! Serial Killer Quarterly, “Partners in Pain” recounts the gruesome tales of 15 serial murderers operating in 7 different teams from 19th century Scotland to 21st century Santa Monica. Bestselling author Cathy Scott guides the reader through the fog choked alleyways of Edinburgh, to peep behind the door of an infamous rooming house where Irishmen William Burke and William Hare fatally suffocated up to 25 people in 1828.

Our second feature by Dr. Katherine Ramsland focuses on Houston’s wicked “Candy Man” Dean Corll – one of the most sadistic murderers in 20th century criminal history – who after hours of torture shot or strangled 27+ boys to death with the aid of teenage accomplices Elmer Wayne Henley and David Brooks. The perverse folie a deux of Doug Clark and Carol Bundy, as relayed by author Kim Cresswell, begins in 1980 on LA’s sunset strip, and climaxes with Bundy regaling authorities with tales of Clark having sex with a victim’s severed head.

As if this issue could not be horrific enough, Robert Hoshowsky and Curtis Yateman write of confinement, rape and torture in their pieces on Leonard Lake and Charles Ng and “Ken and Barbie Killers” Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. Feature number three takes us back to the United Kingdom as Carol Anne Davis. explores whether both John Duffy and David Mulcahy were truly the “Railway Killers,” or whether Duffy stitched his friend up for crimes he didn’t commit. Aaron Elliott closes by looking at a rare female-female serial killer duo in the form of LA’s Helen Golay and Olga Rutterschmidt, who drugged and ran over two indigent men with their car in order to collect on their life insurance policies.

My Writing Process

Thanks to MK Chester for including me in this fantastic blog tour. It’s a great way to meet new authors and discover their books. The tour was started by Laurel O’Donnell weeks ago and it’s all about writing – why we write and how we write. Here we go!

promo11) What am I working on?

I’m working on the sequel to my award-winning romantic suspense REFLECTION (A Whitney Steel Novel). RETRIBUTION is the continuing story of reporter Whitney Steel, former FBI agent Blake Barnett (aka Neely), and two of the most bad-ass villains you’ll ever have the pleasure to meet on paper–Nathan Shaw and Pablo Sanchez. Here is the blurb:

THE WAR HAS JUST BEGUN…

Once the top leader of the Sur del Calle cartel, Colombia’s largest drug trafficking organization, Pablo Sanchez has declared revenge against Blake Barnett, the FBI agent who’d killed his twin brother over a decade ago.

After one failed attempt forced him to flee the United States, Pablo has a bold new plan and he’s even more determined to kill Blake and his fiancée, Whitney Steel.

From Las Vegas to the militant infected jungles of Bogota, Blake has no choice but to risk his life and infiltrate the cartel’s inner world and eliminate the ruthless drug lord.

But the price of failure is higher than ever as he’s forced to use the woman he loves as a pawn in a deadly game—where the events of the past and present collide.

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I think my work differs from others in its genre because I’m a cinematic writer. I write as if watching a movie so my books are an action-packed-steroid-induced thrill-ride combined with sizzling romance. I also try to use some type of controversial topic in all my books. Human cloning is one of them (REFLECTION) and has caused lots of debate over the years. It gets people talking.

3) Why do I write what I do?

I enjoy reading the suspense and thriller genres. I always have. I’ve been a huge fan of the romantic suspense genre since I was in my teens. So why not write what I love? <smile>

4) How does your writing process work?

When I start working a novel, I always begin with only a title and the main characters names. Next, I plot out one or two plot points either on a white board with post-it notes or more recently I’ve been using Scrivener (great writing software). I proceed to write the first chapter without knowing much about my characters but quickly learn who they are by the third chapter. At this point, I use Deb Dixon’s Goal Motivation & Conflict tools to increase the internal and external tension in each scene which easily leads me to plotting out the remaining plot points.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the rest of the tour. Next week, author Mary Waibel will post her writing process blog. Mary is the author of THE PRINCESS OF VALENDRIA series- a set of fractured fairytale fantasies- Quest of the Hart, Charmed Memories, and Different Kind of Knight from MuseItUpPublishing, and Faery Marked, book one of THE FAERY SERIES releasing Summer 2014 from BookFish Books.

Lizzie Tarleton has always done things her own way—including the time at the tender age of thirteen when she confessed to her brother’s best friend she loved him. But now she’s a new teacher at the local high school, and independent enough to know that you can’t force love. She’ll find love when the time is right—even though her parents are adamant the time is now. The only downfall to her idyllic life is the fact that her childhood crush—who broke her heart—is now her boss. If only she could stop daydreaming about him.

Wayne Whitmore grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and worked hard to get where he’s at in life. Even though he enjoys being principal at the small town high school, he dreams of coaching baseball. When his best friend asks him to watch over his little sister at her new job at Wayne’s school, he agrees. What he doesn’t count on is how she’s grown from the pig tailed kid who told him she loved him, to the woman who breaks his concentration with her beauty and smile. Unable to get over his fascination, and afraid he’ll ruin his friend’s trust, Wayne applies for his dream job—one that will take him far away.

One night while decorating the school gymnasium for an upcoming sock hop, Lizzie and Wayne find themselves alone. They share a kiss and Lizzie realizes her childhood crush for Wayne has never died. Wayne decides he doesn’t want to let Lizzie get away.

Can they come to terms with their secret love and then overcome the other secrets they are hiding in order to get what they each want? Or is their timing for love still off?

EXCERPT

She blinked away the heat of tears forming at the back of her eyes. Their conversation had grown too serious. She needed to lighten things up a bit. “Remember when we used to play ‘What if?’”

He laughed. “What if Lizzie wore a dress?”

“Either she was going to church, or her mom was having a ladies’ social.” Lizzie giggled. “Ricky hated that game.”

“He’d get so mad when you’d start it.” He made the final cut on a small snowflake and added it to the pile before him.

“What if Wayne couldn’t throw his famous curve ball?”

“The school trophy case would be one trophy short. What if Lizzie wasn’t teaching here?”

She pouted. “She’d be sad. I have no idea what I’d be doing if I hadn’t found a job here. What does Lizzie have to do to show Wayne she thanks him?” She winked, enjoying their fun.

He cleared his throat. “What if Wayne said Lizzie owed him a kiss?”

Her belly trembled. What if?

“What if he stole one?” His voice lowered and he leaned in.

“Why don’t you find out?” she whispered.
